Trueline’s Engineering Process for Stairs & Railings
When engineering is required by your municipality, Trueline manages the entire process for you: we create detailed shop drawings, have them reviewed and sealed by our engineer, manufacture and install to exact specifications, and coordinate a final engineer site inspection. Once approved, the engineer will issue the required documentation to meet municipal building permit requirements.

When Is Engineering Required
Engineering for stairs and/or railings is not always mandatory; however, it is essential to verify the specific requirements with your municipality’s Building and Permitting Department. Should engineering be required, it is imperative to consult with a Trueline Moulding representative early in the process to ensure that the appropriate structural framing is incorporated during the framing stage.
Given the ongoing changes within the industry, it is always advisable to confirm current requirements before proceeding with any stair or railing project. Engineering documentation is most commonly required for mono (single) stringer stair designs and glass railing systems.
